Safeway: Children's hunger program

This is a subject that is near and dear to our hearts, as one of us used to be a middle school math teacher.  Did you know that 20% of children live in homes with consistent access to food?  For many kids, their school lunch is the only meal they'll have that day.  Safeway has decided to do something about it.

So many children can't focus in school because they are too hungry to think about anything else.  Our former math teacher here at The Crazy Cart saw many, many students who were very bright, but they could not focus on anything at school because the constant ache in their stomachs blocked anything else from coming into their minds.

Safeway's Hunger Is program is dedicated to helping alleviate this problem.  In Denver for the month of September, when you purchase one of the participating items, a minimum of $.10 will be donated to this program (up to $1 million).  There are over 35 brands participating in this program.

You will also be able to donate at the register when you check out by adding in $1, $3, $5, or any amount that you choose.  Please make the extra effort and contribute some of the money you save by couponing to these children.

Our friends at Super Safeway have a list of brands that are part of the program.  Please take a minute to check them out, and add some of them to your shopping list.
